Fundación Cortés

About

Sala Colectiva: Ignacio Cortés Del Valle –To display part of the artistic, cultural and entrepreneurial contributions of the Cortés Family and Cortés Hermanos, Inc. that span over 90 years, Professor Adlín Ríos-Rigau curated an exhibit titled "Familia Cortés: Art, Culture and Entrepreneurship” which showcases artworks in various media from family members of all five generations. This exhibit offers a well-deserved tribute to the ancestors and family legacy and highlights the significant contributions to the arts and culture of Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic.

Sala Enfoque: Pedro Cortés Forteza – “La Borinqueña en San Juan” exhibit, curated by graphic novelist Edgardo Miranda-Rodríguez, celebrates five years of the creation of this unique Afro-Puerto Rican super heroine, La Borinqueña, inspired by our cultural heritage and with the intention of sharing Miranda-Rodríguez’ love for his country of Puerto Rico and its history and traditions. Cortés Hermanos and Edgardo Miranda-Rodríguez created an alliance to create a four-episode La Borinqueña comic story to be printed on the inner wrappers of the Cortés chocolate bars. Proceeds from the sale of the limited-edition chocolate bars will go to the Fundación Cortés as part of the La Borinqueña Grants Program, which distributes grants to local nonprofits.

Established in 2012, Fundación Cortés is a non-profit organization with the mission to educate and inspire with our passion for the arts of the Caribbean. Our vision is to be recognized internationally as a vital center of appreciation, study and exchange of the arts of the Caribbean. It exhibits Caribbean contemporary art drawn from The Chocolate Cortés Private Collection and offers innovative cultural and educational programs that expand and strengthen the link between Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, promoting dialogue, reflection and appreciation of art as key vehicles of positive change. To date we have welcomed more than 75,000 visitors and have presented 14 exhibits in our two exhibit halls. Our theory of social transformation is the integration of Caribbean art in all our cultural and educational programming and to date, through the heart of our institution, the Educa Cortés Program, we have served nearly 14,000 children, youth and adults from public and private schools, universities, institutions and associations, mainly of low income or in disadvantage from all around Puerto Rico.
